EP 31: Why The Same Problem Keeps Coming Back (It's One Sentence)

Somewhere along the way, most of us quietly reorganized our whole lives around one goal: don't have problems. And it's exhausting — because problems are the one thing you will never run out of. Solve this one and there's another one behind it. You could get every single thing you say you want and you'd simply graduate to a better class of problem.

So what if a problem-free life was never the goal? What if you actually want problems, because a problem is the only place the next version of you ever shows up?

Here's the part that changes everything: the problem that keeps visiting you — the same one, over and over — isn't coming back because you're lazy or broken or behind. It keeps coming back because you keep saying the same sentence about it.

You don't have a debt problem. You don't have a follow-through problem. You don't have a "single again" problem. You have a sentence you keep repeating about each one. And a sentence, my friend, can be rewritten.

This isn't a "think positive" episode. There's real research underneath it — and by the end you'll have one repeated sentence captured, one new one decided, one guest chosen, and one small move to make in the next twenty-four hours.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why your first instinct to avoid, delay, or spiral isn't a character flaw — it's factory settings, and the saber-toothed tiger standing in a field of a hundred watermelons explains exactly why
  • The line that reframes your whole operating system: your brain isn't built to make you happy, it's built to keep you alive — two completely different jobs
  • Why this is not toxic positivity, and the research that proves it: challenge states versus threat states, and why the same racing heart produces two completely opposite results
  • The scale your brain is quietly running — what this demands of me on one side, what I've got on the other — and the one thing that tips it
  • Why you're not being asked to calm down or think happy thoughts harder — you're being asked to read your own signal accurately
  • Three real problems (follow-through, being single again, debt) run through the thought model in real time, where the circumstance never moves an inch and only the sentence changes
  • Why your sentence keeps manufacturing its own evidence — and how one small rep starts building the opposite file
  • The Problem Party: every problem throws one, your name is already on the invitation, and the only question that matters is who you bring
  • Why fear, shame, and avoidance are a terrible guest list — and why your guest list is the neuroscience, not a cute metaphor
  • What James has been saying about all of this for two thousand years, and the definition of steadfastness that reframes the woman you're becoming
  • The one foundational sentence underneath almost every problem a woman over 40 is carrying

Your one move this week: Name the one problem that keeps coming back — the repeat offender. Write the exact sentence you keep thinking about it. Not the polished version. The real one, in your actual voice at eleven at night. Then ask: is that a threat sentence (this is bigger than me) or a challenge sentence (this is mine to solve)? Decide one new sentence. Name one guest you're bringing to the party — creativity, strategy, faith, possibility, pick one. Then do one small thing from that new sentence in the next 24 hours. Open the app. Send the text. Ten minutes of journaling. One sentence. One guest. One move.

And here's the thing about the loop: you can throw a party for every surface problem in your life and still feel like you're running in place — because underneath all of them, most women are carrying one foundational sentence. Here I go again. Starting over. As long as that one is running, your problems keep regenerating, because the belief producing them was never touched. That's exactly what my free masterclass, Stop Starting Over For Good, is built for: the belief driving the loop, not the surface problem.

You are not starting over, my friend. You are starting from experience.

If this episode spoke to you, there's a friend who needs to hear that her problem is a sentence, not a verdict. Send it to her.

Until next time: you've got this, my friend. Your reinvention is as good as done.
